It’s a little known fact that I’m (lapsed) pagan. I have been pagan since I was 13 years old which believe me caused an uproar in my southern black Christian household. Yet, even though I am not active in the religion anymore, as I grow older paganism is one of the few things that have stuck with me even after all of these years.
A year ago, I was searching desperately for pagan podcasts and I stumbled across a show called ‘The Fat Feminist Witch’. This is the first time I really saw anyone even discussing the intersections between fat activism, feminism, and paganism before. And since then I have become an avid listener to all of TFFW episodes. I actually listed FFW as one of my favorite fat positive podcasts which you should totally check out.
I was lucky enough to have the privilege of Paige the host of the show to sit down with to discuss her show, intersectional feminist, fat activism, and everything in between!
Firstly, I want to know a little bit more about you.
Well, I live in Windsor Ontario, which is actually just south of Detroit Michigan haha. and The Fat Feminist Witch is what I do for a living! I was working in New Age shops for a while but decided to do the podcast and blog full time and I have two pets! A white lop-eared rabbit named Jimmy Hoppa, and Clover who is a little grey tabby that lived in my neighborhood. we became friends and now he’s sleeping on my couch 🙂
Beyond your podcasting and blogging do you have any other hobbies that you enjoy?
I feel like my podcast work has kind of taken over my hobbies lately, even though they haven’t changed. I love reading and music. I spend hours just on Spotify making playlists and finding music. I also read really fast so some days I read like 2 or 3 books. Lately, all the music and books are kind of witchy in tone.
In the warm weather, I also spend a lot of time walking and riding my bike 🙂
You earlier talked about that you read a lot. What are your favorite books?
I read a lot of witchy and self-help books lately, lots of non-fiction. I love Witches, Sluts, Feminists by Kristen Sollee, Light Magic for Dark Times by Lisa Marie Basile, and I’ve definitely read every Harry Potter book from the original series multiple times haha.
I also read the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comics this year, I’ve never read a lot of comics and fully fell in love. Now I’m reading graphic novels! I just read Jessica Jones and a couple of issues of Paper Girls.
What is your favorite type of music or bands?
I love a lot of older music! I love rock and roll and soul and Motown and blues, and modern musical acts I like usually have kind of a classic sound. I love Al Green, Screamin Jay Hawkins, Nina Simone, Janis Joplin. I’m also a cliche 90s child and I love grunge and alternative from the 90s. I love Nirvana and often cite Courtney Love as one of my fashion influences.
Wow, that’s very eclectic music tastes!
it is! The way I listen to music is even a little eclectic I collect vinyl records, but am addicted to Spotify and have always been a music video junkie. I love music videos. MTV was my childhood whenever my parents weren’t looking.
Do you have any favorite fat positive clothing brands?
This is a tough one actually. I’ve been going through a very casual clothing phase for the last couple of years – I just wanted to be comfortable – and I stopped doing a lot of shopping. Now I’m getting back to shopping online and kind of lost to be honest!
There is a great shop from Toronto called Your Big Sister’s Closet that has really great dresses and jackets and vests.
