Paige from Feminist Fat Witch Podcast

Paige working on her podcast The Fat Feminist Witch

What made your start Fat Feminist Witch?

About a month before I recorded my first episode I left a job I had really loved at a witchy shop. It was unfortunate, the store was beautiful but I just could not work with the woman who owned it. I had really flourished there and found my niche. After I left and I wasn’t talking about spiritual stuff or with spiritual people every day I started to feel like there was a big hole in my life. I decided to start the podcast just to kind of keep that momentum going.

I had been learning so much about spirituality and myself and I knew I needed to keep doing that. I also had realized that I had a way of helping other people and that’s really just the best.

What are your favorite episodes so far?

Oh, good question!

I’m actually super proud of my like, 5 most recent episodes. They’re the best ones I’ve put out I think, but episode 12 Not Every Goddess Has a Sacred Womb I think is my favorite. I still get messages every week from listeners telling me how much that episode meant to them.

It was the episode also lead to me having my first big interview with Lasara Firefox Allen! which was really exciting

What is your least favorite episode?

I don’t know if there are any episodes that I dislike outright, but I’ve noticed a real change in tone between now and 3 years ago when I started. Some of my first few episodes are kind of negative or messy. Episode 9 was a real mess and I hadn’t found my intro music yet so I used something really loud and awful, and I was a little tipsy.

I also didn’t write out my episodes in the beginning and just talked, and I have a tendency to ramble.

When someone messages me and says that they’ve been going through all the episodes from the beginning i feel a little embarrassed, but it’s all a learning experience! I’ve been really proud of the work I’ve put out lately and I know I wouldn’t have gotten there without stumbling through the beginning.

What do you think you need to improve on as a podcaster?

I think the biggest improvement I need to make is my general timing. I try to put out episodes on a schedule but end up just waiting until the inspiration hits me. I’d like to reach out more to my listeners and get suggestions on the things they want to hear, instead of just what I want to hear.

Who are your favorite bloggers or podcasts?

Oh, there are so many great podcasts out right now. I like Serpent Cast, Witch Wave, Feminist Folklore, Hippie Witch and this is odd and seems off-topic but I also love the Social Media Examiner podcast haha. I learn so much about working online!

There’s also a local podcast about Cannabis activism I like called The Cannabis Act

I think the blog I read the most is on the Hoodwitch. She has some really incredible writers right now. I also love a blog called Witchy Words. She posts really amazing photos and descriptions of altars, public and private witchy rituals, and just general witchcraft. she’s really detailed and it’s a great learning tool.
